Dads okay Cagayan de Oro’s Local Climate Change Action Plan

THE City Council of Cagayan de Oro on May 22 approved on second and final reading the Local Climate Change Action Plan of the city from 2017 to 2019, a report reaching the DayBreak said.
With its approval, the city of Cagayan de Oro is set to implement projects in strategic priority areas like food security, water sufficiency, ecological and environmental stability, human security, climate-smart services and policies, sustainable energy and knowledge and capacity development.

Projects under the LCCAP  include the protection and rehabilitation of creeks and river, implementation of the National Greening Program including denuded areas, private lands and river bank easement and reforestation of 3,000 hectares under RA 10452.

To promote climate resilient forest-based tourism facilities and services, the development of rain harvesting systems or farm reservoirs and promotion of climate-resilient eco-tourism facilities, among others are also up for implementation.

The city is also set to  look into the development and introduction of supplementary or alternative livelihood for farmers and fishermen, among others.

Legislators also approved the  Flood Contingency Plan of Cagayan de Oro, the five-year Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (DRRM) and the city’s Local Shelter Plan from 2014 to 2022. (The Power)
