Cagayan de Oro City has new police director
THE
18th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy during its
33rd regular session yesterday welcomed P/SSupt.
Robert Roy Bahian as the newly-appointed City Police Director of Cagayan de Oro
City Police Office (COCPO). He was also invited to answer queries from the
members regarding his plans and programs for the city.
The new police director was
introduced by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo as a “batang kampo,” and the son of
Col. Josito Bahian, who was ambushed in Butuan City while leading a battalion.
PS/Supt. is a member of the Philippine
National Police Academy Class of 1991 and a licensed civil engineer. Before his
assignment here, he served as the
provincial director of Zamboanga Sibugay, the battalion commander of
Police Regional Office 6, and the Logistics and Supply Officer of the
newly-created Police Regional Office 18 (Negros Island).
However, most of his services were
rendered in Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga Sibugay, del Norte, del Sur,
Zamboanga City and in Basilan, Sulu provinces.
According to PS/Supt. Bahian, his
objective is to clear drug-affected barangays, reduce crimes, improve public
safety and cleanse the PNP organization of personnel involved in any
drug-related activity. He said he also adheres to the advocacy of illegal drug
prevention and eradication.
In response to the question of
Councilor Reuben R. Daba if he was going to conduct random drug-testing among his personnel,
PS/Supt. Bahian said drug testing was already done last March 18, starting with
himself, being the city director, down to the lowest-ranking policeman.
He said he is still waiting and
hoping for favorable results of both the drug and confirmatory tests from the
Crime Laboratory.
“It is a tedious process, kaya
hintayin muna natin,” he added. (JAO)
